Happy Valentine’s Day babes! John and I have a dodgeball game tonight and then the plan is to pick up some fried chicken, make a fire and probably binge Game of Thrones. We started the fried chicken dinner thing last year and it was really the perfect way to spend the evening. I know its easy to buy into the whole “treat everyday like it’s Valentine’s Day” thing but it’s fun to have traditions, no matter how low-key and silly they might seem.
On the same note, (aka love) I have started to implement a few practices this year (well, really starting this month) to treat myself, take better care of myself and become more aware of loving myself in the everyday. I can pretty much dedicate a full blog post to each of these things, but let’s start with the good stuff first.
Treat Yourself
As a blogger, there is always that inevitable feeling of having to keep up with the latest trends, not be guilty of outfit repeating etc etc…. For the most part I am pretty transparent about loving to wear favorite pieces over and over again (this sweater dress for example has been featured in multiple instas), so I like to try and forget about the pressure that comes with the job. On the other hand, of course from time to time I like to treat myself to some new things. This usually revolves around celebrating myself for one reason or another – a successful collaboration completed or various other personal and professional accomplishments. So, when the time comes that my bank account will allow me to treat myself, I like to make it good. In the past month or so I have made 3 big purchases and am 100% content with each one.
- Cle de Peau Clarifying Cleansing Foam — this may sound silly for a few reasons. Face wash for $70?! Treating yourself to face wash? I am notoriously bad at taking care of my skin, so when I find something I like I cling on for dear life. When I got a sample of this precious product, I found that you only need a TINYYYY bit with each wash. The sample tube lasted me a month, so I know that this full size should keep my face so fresh and so clean, clean for quite a while. If you’re looking for a luxury product that is worth the price, this is the one! I have horribly dry skin and eczema and this is the answer to my skincare problems.
2. Gucci Loafers — Two years ago for Christmas I got the black loafers and they are WORN IN. They have been some places. From Fashion Week to The Homestead to work on the daily. So when I got a little cash for Christmas I decided to put it towards the white pair! My mom knew I wanted the loafers but also wanted to give me the chance to spend the money another way if I wanted to. I didn’t LOL. I kept on saving and after a nice little bonus, I treated myself. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about luxury items, it’s that they last and are definitely worth the investment.
3. New site theme — This one’s less of a financial treat, and more of an emotional treat. I mean it cost money, but, you know.
Finding my own little space on the internet, aside from The Crystal Press, has been a journey of discovery. At first I just copied all of my personal content from TCP onto here, but it has evolved over the years into more of John + my travel journeys and beyond. I was looking at my site the other day and I just wasn’t feeling it. I asked Cath for some advice and she pointed me to pipdig and I am so glad that she did. The transfer from blogger to wordpress was SO easy with their help. If you’re looking for a face lift for your your own corner of the internet, I highly recommend.
How do you treat yourself?
