Full disclosure : I came up with the idea for this post while I was getting a massage, and immediately got my computer out afterwards, so if it sounds a little convoluted, I apologize.
I was thinking during my massage about how I have been in a little bit of a rut when it comes to creating content on here lately and what I can do to get re-inspired. Don’t worry this isn’t going to be a whiny post. I am grateful to have an audience on here and The Crystal Press that like to read what I have to say, so I really don’t have anything to complain about. However, sometimes I will sit and stare at my screen for 30 mins, with blog drafts open on here and on TCP and I got NADA. I literally texted Catherine yesterday asking her if she had any ideas because I was fresh out.
As I was laying on the massage table (go to Olivia at Carytown Massage, RVA), I was contemplating what I was going to write about with our recent photos from Kenzi. Then I realized how excited I was about this series of photos – like, really excited – and !LIGHTBULB! I realized that what invigorates me and helps me continue to feel creative is working with Catherine & our photographer friends to create new content. I love picking out which outfits to wear, shopping online ahead of time, perusing my closet, looking at pinterest and instagram for inspiration. I realized I am constantly nagging Cath about when we are going to shoot next, and she does her best to oblige my tendencies 😉

While I love posting real-time, iPhone, everyday photos for you guys – which I know you really like – I need to balance it out with professional shoots to keep me feeling really creative. It doesn’t hurt that usually our photographers make me look way cooler than I am IRL. I mean, these photos are too legit, right?
SO, I won’t ramble too much longer but, the moral of this story is not to get you guys hype to go out and hire a professional photographer, but instead to remind yourself often how you stay inspired. This might mean that you go for a run daily, treat yourself to a spa day every now and again, write in a journal or play with your kids / pets. Only you can figure out what really keeps you motivated on the daily. You may not need to do anything groundbreaking in order to stay in the inspired mindset, although spending time with yourself, meditating, listening to music or getting the creative juices flowing doesn’t hurt either. {At least for me}
PS. I KNOW THESE SOCKS ARE AWESOME. But, of course, they sold out almost immediately from Blair Eadie’s Atlantic – Pacific x Halogen collaboration from Nordstrom. *SIGH* I’ve linked similar vibes in the outfit widgets, though.
What do you guys do to stay inspired?

This is such a great post! I need ways to get re-inspired sometimes too, it’s easy to get caught up and feel drained and discouraged. It’s important to have ways to get back on top of your game!
Such a great post! I think that this happens to everybody every now and then and is totally normal (and a good thing too)! xoxo sarah
I completely agree. I had a Halloween shoot this week and it was very different for me and my feed. I came home and bam 💥 blog post. It’s so important to surround yourself around other creatives.
I get in ruts sometimes too and it’s totally okay! I love your outfit and those boos are so cute!!

cute & little
This outfit is too amazing!! Love those socks and not surprised that they sold out so quickly! Personally I think it’s very normal to go through cycles of feeling inspired and uninspired. I face imposter syndrome a lot myself and have learned to take time to self-soothe. It’s totally OK to take breaks as needed!!
I find it difficult to get inspired from time to time as well. It used to stress me out, but now I’ve come to see that it’s a good thing that we go in cycles of creativity. If we were always “on”, it would be exhausting!
I think we all need to get re inspired some times! Especially if we’re in a personal rut or just creative!
It can be hard to get out of a creative rut, sometimes. But it seems like you’ve found some ways to stay truly inspired and you keep on pushing out that awesome content, which is impressive! Way to have an epiphany on a massage table, by the way haha!
Yes yes yes all of this!! I get so inspired when shooting with my photographer! I love that we are such a great team!
These are great tups for getting inspired and out of a rut!
