Photos That Didn’t Make IG in 2020 Pt. 1

An ode to all the photos that don’t make the precious instagram feed.

I posted these photos today on my instagram feed and got such great feedback, that I decided to make a full blog post.  They aren’t exactly bloopers, just test shots, where I actually love the aesthetic. I’m just holding my phone, checking the settings!

So I’ll say it again: I wouldn’t say that I mastered the art of the remote self portrait in 2020, but I certainly took a lot of them.  When we were stuck at home, I spent hours figuring out how to use my tripod, ring light and new Canon G7X to capture content at home for my Quar Isolation Creations.  I use the Canon app on my phone to shoot content remotely and the first few photos are inevitably me looking at the phone to adjust pose, lighting, etc..

SO, For each photo that you see on instagram, or here on the blog, there are at least 20 that are taken before I actually get the shot right. And by “right” I just mean, how I pictured in my head or if I captured the vibe, mood, etc. And, again, I have not mastered my camera by any means. I still have a looooooooong way to go when it comes to photography, but I have learned a lot from trial and error, especially when it comes to shooting indoors.  I actually love all of the photos in this post, because they show the work that goes into “getting the shot.”  I also just love the mood and aesthetic as I am trying to figure things out. It reminds me of all the work and effort that I spend trying to create quality content!

If I thought my followers would enjoy endless shots of me on my phone, trust me, I would have posted all of these! ha, but really, I am working to change the way I create this year so that I am doing what I love to do, and satisfying my creative energies, while also guiding you through 2021 fashion and travel.

Now, was this the first blog post I thought I would write in 2021? NOPE! But sometimes you just gotta do what feels right. And today I bring you this rambling blog post, with some favorite photos that you didn’t get to see last year.

I love all of these outtakes! It’s such a fun side, because you see all of these perfect shots but there’s like 25 other’s that didn’t make the cut.

You know, I like them all … there is something raw and attention grabbing about them all. Even out outtakes are editorial.

So many good photos, but I really like this idea. There’s so many on my camera roll that didn’t see the light of day because honestly I forgot about them, or there was just too much going on to post. I should do this!

These are all great! Even if they didn’t make the feed. What a fun way to re-purpose them.
